STEPS TO ORGANIZE A SUCCESSFUL RIVERWALK
- A person does not even have to be attending to help set up a RiverWalk. They can do it all on the phone and by email. As long as they follow up and follow through with the prep work.
- First, contact the Sr. Patrol Leader (S.P.L.) to determine if he is attending.
- If yes, have him contact the Patrol Leaders (P.L.) and instruct them to contact each member of their Patrol and determine if they are attending this months RiverWalk.
- Each P.L. should encourage the Scout's in their Patrol to attend this event.
- He should instruct them to wear proper clothing or hat (cold or hot), bring water, snacks, wear good shoes/boots, etc.
- Each P.L. needs to return an estimated count back to the S.P.L. or A.S.P.L. Who reports to the adult in charge of this months RiverWalk.
- If the S.P.L. is NOT attending the RiverWalk this month, he should contact the Assistant Sr. Patrol Leader (A.S.P.L.) and instruct him to contact the P.L. (Step 2).
- Next, contact one of the Adults who has a C.D.L. and make certain they will volunteer to drive the bus, complete the pre-trip inspection, fuel the bus, complete the event forms so the Scouts get credit for the hike & miles, etc.
- Also, make certain there is another adult on the trip so we can maintain 2 deep leadership.
- Confirm there are rubber gloves, garbage bags, the wagon & hand sanitizer on the bus.
- Determine which 1/2 of the RiverWalk needs to be completed this month.
- Have fun, pick up lot's of trash, and drop off the trash at the M.S.D.
location.
- Return the bus to the school, park and clean the bus.
