CONCERNING COPYRIGHTS

Members of the EmbroideryList,

It is very important that every embroiderer, digitizer and supplier in the entire embroidery industry understands the importance of copyrights. If you have questions about design ownership, check out the Resource Center/Library area of the EmbroideryMall for links and information regarding copyrights. If you have a situation that you are not certain of, check with your lawyer.

Why must you know copyright rules and laws? Because your business depends on it! I personally know of two very large embroidery shops that have been closed and forced out of business because they did not understand (or ignored) copyright laws.

You CANNOT borrow, copy or duplicate someone else's design PERIOD!!!

Because of this, we want everyone to know that if you are looking for an embroidery design, you must be looking to locate the ORIGINAL source for that design. If you wish to post to this list that you are looking for a design, make sure you specify that you are looking to buy, or otherwise legally acquire the design.

All the moderators for this list will now watch how posting is phrased regarding looking for any copyrighted information. If someone is looking for a design and wants to locate a place to purchase from the original source, that's fine. But to insinuate trade or exchange of copyrighted designs, the posting will be returned with a suggestion that the posting be rewritten to avoid confusion.

This "List" cannot, and will not, support or promote any trading or exchanging of designs or other copyrighted material.

This message may sound negative or dire, but trust me, your knowledge of copyrights and adherence to those laws, is paramount to your business'success.
